Book Review - Awakening the Light by Natasha Woodcraft

I hope everyone is doing well. I've had Natasha Woodcraft's new faith-based fantasy on my "to-be-read" pile since it was released in April, and I must tell you, it did not disappoint. 

I have read some of her other work, but Awakening the Light really stood out to me. I can not wait to share my thoughts on the first book in this series. So here you go.

My Review of this Book:

Have you ever struggled with understanding yourself or your purpose in life? In struggling with this, have you ever wanted useful examples of people who deal with similar things to encourage you on your journey?

Well, Awakening The Light by Natasha Woodcraft is a fantastic book, and it is a resource that speaks to that kind of longing. This one kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the journey. Some of the aspects of the story sat with me for days after I finished this one.  

The world- building is phenomenal, and Woodcraft uses some of the best descriptive language I've read in a faith-based fantasy novel. She truly gives this world a unique vibe, and I could honestly visualize almost every single detail of the story. 

The magic system feels totally realistic, and it fits into the world in the most natural way possible. There are no boring info dumps to explain things along the way. The author literally throws the reader into the middle of it all. 

When it comes to characterization, all of them were done wonderfully. Character growth was my favorite part of the story. As I was reading this novel, I truly felt as if I was right there with the characters as they grew along the way. 

The cultural differences between the tribes stuck out to me because, as someone who also writes fantasy stories with tribes, it really gave me clear guideposts on the differences between the tribes of Enjanan. The way they lived, their beliefs, and also their faults were illustrated beautifully. 

Woodcraft also has done the readers a great service with Shay and Kellan taking on the lead roles for most of the book. Each one is so compelling, and quite human, even if they are Aliens living in another realm. 

Watching as these characters, and others, start to break free of their limitations gave the world of Enjanan a solid foundation for future books. Each character has a place in the story as well as their own struggles to deal with. That makes for an action-packed read of the story.

At its core, this book shines with its focus on family trauma and overcoming painful memories. The family support system was something I truly enjoyed seeing, even when certain things were overlooked along the way.

The plot is vivid and more than interesting enough to keep you engaged from start to finish. I loved following along with the adventure. While some twists and turns along the way were almost anticipated, Woodcraft did a wonderful job foreshadowing what was going to happen. Her approach was flawless. 

It all comes down to a final cliffhanger that, while I expected it, was still incredibly surprising in how the author chose to bring it all to life. The ending was well planned out, and it definitely left me wanting more from her story world. 

Awakening the Light is a powerful, emotionally resonant fantasy. It balances magical wonder with deep, human truths about family, faith, and identity. It absolutely kept me hooked until the very last page, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next.
